SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER
Are you a creative and strategic digital marketer passionate about making a difference?
We're Fat Moon Creative, a boutique marketing agency looking for a values-aligned Social Media Manager to lead one of our accounts, with room to pick up more work down the line if it's a good fit!
Overview:
Location: Fully Remote (Candidates must be based in the United States and available to work during standard, but flexible Pacific Time business hours. Preference given to applicants based in California).
Employment Type: Independent 1099 Contractor
Duration: Ongoing
Hours: Up to 25 hours a month
Rate: $60/hour
Start Date: Flexible - late August/early-to-mid September
Role Type: Please note this is a strategic role, not an entry-level social media position. We’re looking for someone with proven experience growing social media accounts, creating content strategies, building organic social content, and analyzing performance.
About Our Agency
At Fat Moon, we partner with socially conscious brands and nonprofits, helping them craft imaginative strategies, bespoke social content, and powerful partnerships that inspire meaningful action.
Our clients are all changemakers in their own unique way—creating more responsible food systems, advancing social justice, or protecting the environment (sometimes all of these things!), and we are honored to serve as partners that help them build a more sustainable and equitable world. At the end of the day, we just want to add sunshine to this planet and co-create with awesome, empathetic, caring people who find joy in meaningful work.
When it comes to new team members, we’re seeking big-hearted, savvy marketers who want to use these f*cked-up social platforms for good. If you love telling stories online, building community, and care immensely about the state of our planet, the people in communities all over the world, and the flora and fauna we live alongside, we’re excited you’re reading this.
The Role – Social Media Manager
You'd lead the account for one of our specialty food clients. You'll have true creative ownership and will be working directly with our client's marketing lead. They're a fun cheese brand that leans into sustainability and artisanal positioning in their marketing, so if that all sounds up your alley, you'll probably love this one!
Responsibilities
Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as their trusted marketing partner, including leading Zoom meetings.
Actively research and keep an eye on food trends that feel right for the brand.
Strategically plan a monthly content calendar you’re excited to execute, about 3 posts a week across Instagram and Facebook.
Curate photo/video content, making a pretty limited set of assets feel fresh every month. This could be a new angle, different caption voice, smarter edit, etc.
Copywrite and design imaginative, bespoke social content (graphics/carousels/videos) that inspire engagement and action.
Make one main post concept, but apply edits to optimize the post for Instagram vs. Facebook.
Both schedule/publish content as needed, as well as assign, manage, and oversee the work of a team member who can support with social media scheduling/publishing.
Handle boosting and ad campaigns through Meta Ads Manager. Know the basics already? Great. Don't yet? We'll teach you! We care way more about you wanting to learn.
Put together a monthly report and apply its learnings to your strategy.
Do light community management around posting times. Replying to comments, giving some love to tagged posts.
You’ll be a great fit if you have:
You have 3+ years of hands-on social media experience and have managed a full account solo before.
A passion for working with purpose-driven brands and organizations.
Creative flair with a focus on delivering measurable results.
You love copywriting and can write in different tones without sounding like two different people. Playful in one caption, more informative in the next, but still on-brand either way.
You can apply a detailed brand style guide.
You can look at a spreadsheet of numbers and determine why things are going up or down or staying flat, as well as how to apply those insights
Excellent attention to detail—you have eagle eyes when it comes to the details (typos in captions, an accidental line in a graphic file, a tag linking to a different account than intended).
A proactive mindset and ability to work independently. You don't need someone hovering over deadlines to hit them—we have a pretty hands-off managerial style!
Strong project management, collaboration, and delegation skills.
The ability to wrangle multiple projects and tasks into clear action plans and communicate effectively with clients, the Fat Moon team, and external contractors.
You value accountability and transparency—we believe wholeheartedly that “kind is clear and clear is kind.”
You take all feedback in stride and use it to make the work better.
A love for learning tools/platforms and their evolving features
You enjoy keeping up with the cultural zeitgeist of the internet.
You know Instagram and Facebook inside and out. In-feed, Reels, Stories.
You know Canva and CapCut/Kapwing (or something similar) well enough to make a small pool of assets go a long way.
You know Meta Ads Manager or are very excited to learn it.
Bonus points if you...
Have worked with food, CPG, or import brands before
Care about sustainability or food systems
Like the idea of picking up more accounts with us over time
